Police are investigating the fire of the Stevens Cooperative House located on Hill Street, which burned the structure to the ground early Tuesday morning. The building was undergoing a massive renovation at the time, and virtually the entire interior had been removed, and the electricity shut off. Members of the Inter Cooperative Council have been standing watch at the site to prevent theft, and are hoping other co-ops across the country will help contibute money to re-build the house.

“The home, near the University of Michigan Central Campus, had been a co-op for the last 60 years and had about 20 residents at a time. The former tenants moved out about a month ago when the renovation began. No one was injured in the fire.

The fire was reported by a passerby early Tuesday, and fire officials would like to speak to anyone who witnessed anything around that time. People with information can call (734) 994-4976.”
