New MLive homepage preview

MLive has an article up about its upcoming redesign. There’s a screenshot of the new homepage, too. Some new things include more news above the fold homepage, local sports in a prominent position, and highlighting of most-commented articles. I don’t see evidence of local ads in the style of the Ann Arbor Chronicle, but that may yet be coming.

  1. There’s a whole lot of prominence given to sports, weather, classifieds, and entertainment, but “news” (all of it lumped together) only gets a small fraction of the space. I wonder how regional settings will change the layout, or if I can move / hide sections.

    I’m also interested in seeing what new commenting tools or policies MLive rolls out. Reporters never reply to comments on their own stories, and threads often devolve fast. I’d be interested in seeing more moderation, as well as a “new comments” feed, so I know what articles are being discussed.

  2. Has anyone at MLive ever read the comments on the articles? It’s a step above their forums but not by much.
