Vault of Midnight opens in their new digs at the former Afterwords building. Acme retools, extends hours, and creates a website. MosaicSphere moves to bigger space on Huron Street. Jules moves to smaller space on Ashley. Vinology opens in the former Mayer-Schairer building. Spears/Amvest Properties buys the Dobson/Mcomber building on North Main and almost a block of South Main across from Leopold Brothers. South Main Market contemplates reconfiguration of their space to give existing tenants more room.

The Main Street summer festival/entertainment season kicks off with the first Summertime First Friday event this Friday (June 2) with free entertainment in the Main Street area from 7-9 pm. Saturday is the 11th Annual African-American Downtown Festival on 4th Street and Ann from 7 am-9 pm and Sunday is the Taste of Ann Arbor from 11 am-5 pm.

And through August, weekend parking at the Ann/Ashley parking structure is free to the public from Friday at 3:30 pm through Monday at 6 am.

  1. Don’t forget the addition of the Thai restaurant to the ground floor of Ashley Mews; not only has Zenaida chocolate lounge outlasted everyone’s prediction, a reasonable complement will be moving in soon. Also, on State, the John Leidy space is being filled.

  2. Thanks for the exciting updates. And just to clarify, the Taste of Ann Arbor is on SUNDAY, not Saturday. The Dexter Ann-Arbor Run, is also Sunday and I believe there is going to be a record turn-out at the event (around 6,000 people?). Look for Chuck Warpehoski, a new Arbor Update Contributor and ICPJer, as he crosses the finish line in the half-marathon.

Something else that’s going on is the Normal Park Yard Sale in Ypsi’s Normal Park Neighborhood (take Packard in Ann Arbor to W. Cross in Ypsi and your there). The Yard Sale is always a big event with lots of families particpating. It will be this Saturday, June 3rd from 9am-4pm in Normal Park (website: www.comnet.org/npna)

  3. Oops, thanks Nancy for the clarification on the Taste of Ann Arbor! I changed the date in the post.

For pottery aficionados, the Potters Guild sale is this weekend too, as is the big overruns sale at Motawi tileworks.

And yes, if ever a place needed a destination restaurant next door—Zenaida needs one. Now hopefully they will step up to the plate and provide service and food that matches their potential. I haven’t seen it yet, but I keep hoping.
