DPS Boasts a Drop in On-campus Crime

A U-M press release reports:

On-campus crime reported in 2003 at the University of Michigan dropped from 2002 in all but one major crime category, Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials announced today. Enhanced security measures implemented in the residence halls during 2003 were credited with much of the crime drop.

    “4 Oct 2004 18:36:47 EDT, Caller advises that students are reporting smoke alarm going off in a room on the sixth floor and they believe smoke is coming from the room. Also, they smell something burning. Garbage can was on fire and has been put out with a fire ext. Affiliate arrested after advising Ofc. that he must have started the fire after dumping ashes from his marijuana pipe into the garbage can then leaving the room. Subject was processed and released pending warrant authorization.”
